Cytomegalovirus is an enveloped DNA virus, member of the herpesvirus family. All herpesviruses share a characteristic ability to remain latent within the body over long periods. Although they may be found throughout the body, CMV infections are frequently associated with the salivary glands in humans and other mammals. Cytomegalovirus may be shed in the body fluids of any previously infected person, and thus may be found in urine, saliva, blood, tears, semen, and breast milk. Cytomegalovirus infection is important to certain high-risk groups like newborns, people working with children and immunocompromised patients, such as organ transplant recipients and individuals infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Prevalence ranges from 30% to 70% in Western Europe and North America.
H-DiaCMVQTM is a trusted and easy-to-use molecular diagnostic CE-IVD kit to perform quantitative real-time PCR to detect and measure the viral load of human cytomegalovirus (CMV) in total blood/EDTA or plasma/citrate.The kit is used on samples from potentially infected patients by the cytomegalovirus. The kit contains a standard quantitative curve, a positive and negative control and a PCR inhibition control.
